Netflix Watch Instantly is now available for Mac users like myself. Last night I watched the first 10 episodes of 30 Rock while I did some last minute web work before my trip to London. I know the service doesn’t have a lot of movies, or even a lot of good movies, but I definitely see the potential. About 50 of the films on my 360 film-filled queue are available instantly. You have to Opt-In to the Mac Beta program, download and install Microsoft Silverlight. So if you’re on a Mac and have a Netflix subscription, go check it out! (via /Film | Blogging the Reel World)

“For her part, Sarah Palin, who has lately taken to calling Obama “Barack the Wealth Spreader,” seems to be something of a suspect character herself. She is, at the very least, a fellow-traveller of what might be called socialism with an Alaskan face. The state that she governs has no income or sales tax. Instead, it imposes huge levies on the oil companies that lease its oil fields. The proceeds finance the government’s activities and enable it to issue a four-figure annual check to every man, woman, and child in the state. One of the reasons Palin has been a popular governor is that she added an extra twelve hundred dollars to this year’s check, bringing the per-person total to $3,269. A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.” Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it (“collectively,” no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.”

““The Wire”, but that’s kind of finished now. I’ve really been into this show “John From Cincinnati”, which I guess just came out on DVD, and I think it actually got canceled. But it is truly bizarre, and the dialogue is pretty great. It’s totally worth watching. It’s almost off-putting in the first episode, but it lulls you into this weird kind of trance-state— it’s not like any other show I’ve ever seen on television. The only thing I can really compare it to is a way lighter version of “Twin Peaks”.”
